Carrier Aircraft Service Unit (CASU) 44
The story of CASU (f)44 begins when the Unit was activated on Feb 22, 1944.
The Navy began to organize the men, approximately 1100 in total, consisting of all the specialities required to support and maintain the multitude of aircraft fighting in the Pacific Theater.
Camp Mugu, Point Hueneme, California
The officers and enlisted men were sent to Camp Mugu which is just south of Hueneme, California, just North of Los Angeles. By April of 1944 CASU 44 was ready to ship out and on April 22 they were on their way to Oahu, Hawaii.
Kaneohe Bay Naval Air Station, Oahu, Hawaii
CASU 44 was assigned to Oahu Hawaii on July 1944.
